The origins of this masseria are very ancient.
Evidence of this is the fact that from a historical point of view, the place name probably derives from the late Latin term “ scamnum”, which meaning is the piece of ground between two adjacent plough grooves.
And Iazzo Scagno is also one of the white farms ( ‘masserie’) of the territory of Martina Franca, which has been in time less interested by phenomena of poorly controlled human settlement. Thus the charm of the forests, of the stony and bushy slopes (mesole) and of the vast expanse of fields stays intact.
